Rules

The Constitution, Rules and Guidance

Below you can find a copy of our constitution.  In addition to this we have the following rules and guidelines which we all adhere to.  Many of these rules form part of our leasing agreement with the landowner.  If any of the rules and guidelines are unclear please do not hesitate to ask a committee member who will clarify for you.

Use of the allotment site as outlined in our leasing agreement with the landowner:

By using the allotments we agree that:

We will keep our plots clean and tidy

We will maintain the dividing grass paths between plots to ensure easy access for plot holders

We will not obstruct the public footpath

Subletting of plots is not permitted - all lettings should be made via the committee

Only dwarf rootstock fruit trees are permitted, with a height limit of 2.5 meters.

No dumping of rubbish is permitted along the south boundary

Children are more than welcome on site, but please ensure your children are safe and supervised.  The Southfleet Allotment Society will not be responsible for accidents or other incidents involving children on any part of the Allotment site.

The Southfleet Allotment Society reserves the right to give 14 days notice of termination of rental of an allotment if the plot is not satisfactorily

maintained or non-compliance with the Tenancy agreement in any way. Any disputes arising between tenants shall be referred to the Southfleet

Allotment Society.  We operate on a 6 month non cultivation rule - anyone who has not actively worked their plot in 6 months will have their tenancy

revoked and will receive 14 days notice to remove anything they have on site, or such items will become the property of the new tenant. Full review procedure is documented at the bottom of the page.

Please consider your plot neighbours and those living nearby:

Keep weeds under control.  Each plot is subject to a twice yearly review carried out in April and October.  Those plots showing little or no activity between reviews will be taken back and tenancy revoked.  This is in order to enable us to comply with the landowners wishes for the site not to become overgrown.

No excessive noise.

Wherever possible, please do not operate machinery after 6.30pm

No parties, unless a prearranged Southfleet Allotment Society approved gathering of allotment holders only.

If you light a fire, please first refer to the NAS guidance document found at the bottom of the page and try and light them on a day when the smoke blows away from housing and ideally into the field.  Bonfires should only contain allotment waste.

Please respect the boundaries of your plot.  Please do not venture onto other plots without invitation.

Do not remove any item or produce from another plot without prior agreement from the plot holder.

Care for the Environment:

Minimise use of plastic and take rubbish home with you.

Do not use carpet or underlay to cover your plot.  If weed membrane is used please lift regularly to ensure it is not grown over.  The Committee may request ground coverings to be removed with one months notice.

Weedkillers are permitted, but please ensure they are non toxic to animals and wildlife.  Never spray on a windy day when it could drift onto other plots.

Please do not leave hoses running unattended.  Sprinklers are not permitted.

Domesticated Animals

Dogs are welcome, but please do not let them stray onto neighbouring plots

Due to the open nature of the site and it's proximity to farmland, chickens and other livestock are not permitted to be kept on site.

Beekeeping is permitted.

Buildings

Small garden buildings are permitted on site, such as small sheds and greenhouses or polytunnels.  These are erected and maintained by the plot holder and any items left therein are done so entirely at the owners own risk.
